Hachee a Dutch Beef Stew

I got this wonderful recipe from Kay of Kayotic kitchen after I started tweeting that I wanted to learn some Dutch recipes. She tweeted me this saying its a staple comfort food for Dutch folks, I enjoyed the addition of apples and molasses in the recipe. I must confess it was a little different compared to a British stew in taste a little sweet but its so much fun trying foods from different countries.

Here's the link to the recipe and your sure to enjoy her blog - Kayotic Kitchen - Hachee
I served it over polenta sometimes I like a change from mashed potatoes and it worked well :-)

What new cuisine have you cooked recently?

  1. Sounds good to me and yes I agree Polenta makes a nice change from time to time. Diane

  2. I love when people share traditional recipes from their country. The sweet ingredients in this recipe sound appalling to my taste.

I hope you are having a nice holiday time with your family.

  4. The apples and molasses do intrigue - so different than what I do - but I can see it. I agree with the polenta. If you're going to mix up the stew a bit - mix up the starch base! New cuisine? More and more French - you know - that country that borders Italy!

  8. Very cool. I love that you are interested in cuisine from all over the world...just like me! If you haven't already heard about Eat Well Global, check it out. It is nutritionists/RDs in other countries writing about foods in the countries where they live. (Shocker, I am writing the one for Japan, and I am so excited). I though it might be something you would find interesting and neat. http://eatwellglobal.com/ and there are 2 apps already available in iTunes.

  10. This does look comforting! I have been trying to find some Dutch food to cook too. I thought I should since I'm 3/4 Dutch. :) At Christmas my mom always made her Dutch pastry banket. I will be making that this year. You sound like me trying different regional cuisines. Love it!
