Southport Teahouse

I rarely do restaurant or cafe reviews but this lovely little tearoom deserves a mention. Just before driving back home Sunday after our weekend at the coast we decided to head into Southport North Carolina a lovely little seaside town, with antique shops, places to eat and historic buildings. As we drove towards the center of town I spotted this tearoom and we had to stop. What a pleasant surprise as a Brit I love tearooms and visit many of them when I visit home. I have been to quite a few in America and they always fall short but this one felt like home. The Victoria sandwich a British cake I make often was spot on, it was even close to my Mum's its a delicate sponge cake with butter cream and jam in the center.

The service was great and delightful decor with cute tables cloths and china cups to drink out of. We opted for two high teas that came with a pot of tea and a collection of finger sandwiches and cakes. There was more than enough we even had some for our journey home.

Mocha Cupcakes

I made these little cupcakes for valentines with our girl, they are a chocolate cake with a little coffee in them and a coffee icing. Fun little treat :-) This cake was lovely and moist getting close to my Grandma's chocolate cake which is legendary, one tip she always would give is to use a good baking flour.

Meet David an NC Commercial Fisherman

I meet David on twitter the other day and was excited to meet a commercial fisherman in my state of North Carolina. I adore fresh seafood and thought why not ask him if he would like to be interviewed for the blog, I added to facebook and tweeted and got some questions. I am truly grateful for his time, the lovely pictures and think his business idea is wonderful.

Easy Peasy Tomato Soup

I am surprised I hadn't realized how easy tomato soup is to cook, wonderful to make a big pot and eat for lunches. We have had some strange weather lately and quite a few snow days poor wee kids have to make them up. But seasons are wonderful and so excited to see more flowers and the blossoms and warm days of spring.

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”
Anne Bradstreet quotes (British poet, 1612-1672)
