New River Valley

We just came back from a weekend in the New River Valley this beautiful area of South West Virginia is actually very close to us, but we had not yet explored it. It is well worth the visit, it has lovely farmlands, rolling hills and lots of access points to explore the New River Trail State Park this is a fantastic trail that runs from this area all the way to Galax along an old railway line that is used for biking and hiking. It has some great views.

There is also Claytor lake to explore and you can rent kayaks, paddle boards and canoes there.

In Draper, there is a delightful tearoom next to the Draper Mercantile, you need to make reservations but its a treat I loved how they fused American foods with a British tea service. For example it featured pimento cheese sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches and American cookies, another unique twist was a wonderful cheese board with pumpkin bread, crackers, nuts, and relish.

In these times when we aren't able to travel far maybe its an opportunity to find great places almost on our doorsteps.
