Passonate Fruit Cranachan

Cranachan is a traditional Scottish dessert traditionally made with whipped cream infused with whisky and fresh berries. I have fond memories of my Dad visiting us in America and making this for American friends and laughing lots with his Southern friend as they enjoyed a few drams.

I found a passionate fruit in the store recently and like most foodies couldn't resist the urge to purchase a new fruit, after I got it home I realized I had no idea how to tell if it was ripe, so quickly asked on the blog's Facebook page and twitter and found out that I needed to wait till it shriveled up, changed color and had a fragrant smell. I wanted to make something special with the fruit and settled on cranachan.

Interestingly among my passionate fruit tweets I connected with Monique a lovely Brazilian travel blogger who said she grew up with passionate fruit trees in her childhood garden, after a few tweets I asked her to share a guest post about the garden on my blog

Passonate Fruit Cranachan:

Ingredients:

to make 3 small servings

- one passionate fruit - simply scoop out the middle and discard the skin

- one tablespoon of Whisky I used The Laddie Twenty Two

Method:

1. toast the oats over a medium heat for 3 minutes
2. whip the cream until it has peaks and mix in the whiskey
3. scoop out the passion fruit and add a little sugar as needed
4. mix the cream with whisky with the oats and layer with the passion fruit
5. enjoy

have a lovely weekend everyone :-)
