Washington DC: blossoms and global tastes
We have just spend a lovely weekend in Washington DC with our friends. It's not so far from us and its such a great city to visit. We were lucky enough to still see a few blossoms on the trees. The whole city has been seduced by these beautiful little flowers that change from white to pink almost in the blink of an eye. With carnivals, a Japanese street festival, blossom inspired cocktails and store fronts decorated with them.
One of my favorite parts of Washington is the food scene and eating from around the world. Late the first evening we had a chivito a Uruguayan sandwich made with sirloin, egg, mayonnaise, bacon, olives and mozzarella. One heck of a sandwich but so good in a gas station
Fast gourmet 1400 west st NW
The next day we ate in DGS delicatessen a cool new restaurant recommended by Shulie @foodwanderings it's modern Jewish food. To me it brought fun recipes from different parts of the world and served in a fun atmosphere.
1317 Connecticut ave near DuPont circle
Borscht
Grilled mahi with a spicy tomato sauce and cous cous
We were also treated to a great farmers market this morning in DuPont circle
Peach blossoms
Wool
Then we had Ethiopian
Prawns with injera their flatbread made with teff
Ethiopian potato salad lemony with a kick
The kids weren't too sure about this food but we just sat back and didn't make a fuss and then they tried it.
Hope you all had a good weekend filled with good food and smiles
Hugs Rebecca
