Canada produces some wonderful fruit/veg. and I believe they are fairly strict about additives etc., & I dont think they should worry about labelling at all. I dont believe labelling affects sales that much, as these days the cheaper product usually does sell better wherever it comes from. I do think people do prefer to buy their own country's produce but this isn't always economic.BeadBaghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04042816003575647162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-82205558424250379732009-05-16T06:58:00.000-04:002009-05-16T06:58:00.000-04:00Thanks Rich thats an awesome point, I agree, local...Thanks Rich thats an awesome point, I agree, local is best to support the local farmers when you can and it tastes betterchow and chatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04225995063075911644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-59691978604737979892009-05-16T03:00:00.000-04:002009-05-16T03:00:00.000-04:00I think it's absolutely essential that you know wh...I think it's absolutely essential that you know where your food comes from, for many reasons.

The main reason is that it's just nice to know, but another compelling factor is the small matter of food miles - how far has that way out of season vegetable travelled to get to your plate, and what's the environmental impact of it's journey?

In the UK, food has been labelled with country of origin for many years, and there's a growing movement of people interested in reducing food miles and buying locally.rich (them apples)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16700939962860096485noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-45819893319772095542009-05-15T18:06:00.000-04:002009-05-15T18:06:00.000-04:00I like to know where my food comes from I think th...I like to know where my food comes from I think the labeling is good, but Mary you right most folks don't read labels, the other thing in the news is cities making fast food restaurants label calorie, fat values of foods. The hospital I used to work in labeled stuff in the cafeteria, folks would be shocked by it but still ate the fried stuff!.
thanks everyone for your comments and thoughts Rebeccachow and chatterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04225995063075911644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-20000543026367015412009-05-15T17:19:00.000-04:002009-05-15T17:19:00.000-04:00Yup, I do like to know where my food comes from!Yup, I do like to know where my food comes from!Heather S-Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02722720171083290211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-15444431139291491812009-05-15T17:01:00.000-04:002009-05-15T17:01:00.000-04:00I would love to know where my food comes from, cou...I would love to know where my food comes from, country and state too if it's from US.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6916730573684015784.post-15642512241328532162009-05-15T15:55:00.000-04:002009-05-15T15:55:00.000-04:00I too like food labeling and country of origin.
